1. Trou aux Cerfs Volcano

Your first stop is going to be at Trou aux Cerfs, the famous dormant volcano that once gave birth to Mauritius. Overlooking the city of Curepipe, this place offers magnificent 360 degree views over the island. Getting there is quite easy from Curepipe as the attraction is well marked. But to be more specific, you can take 3 roads to reach its beautiful top. La Hausse de la Louvière Street, Edward Hughes Street or the volcano road. You will easily find a parking lot to park your rental car.

Trou-aux-Cerfs, by its surreal vastness and its lush greeneries has a very particular character. Inactive for centuries, it is only considered sleeping but as per experts, it could wake up at any time. 2. Quatre Bornes Market

Your next stop is in Quatre Bornes, in the heart of the urban area of the island. The city has a market for all kinds of finds! Very famous for tourists but also intensely authentic. Thursday and Sunday this is where those who are looking for textiles meet! A heterogeneous choice, between fabrics, clothes, jewelry, accessories of all kinds! 

And if you’re already craving for some local delicacies, the Quatre-Bornes market has what you need. Try the spicy Gato Piment or the famous Dholl Puri before you taste a tropical fruit juice or the Alouda. Oh, we know it’s still early in your trip, but you will also find lots of souvenirs, local handicrafts and exotic clothes such as the Paréo.

3. Port Louis

Less than 16 kilometres from Quatre Bornes, you will find yet another beautiful city. This time it is the largest, the capital city of Mauritius, Port Louis. We’ve got to warn you though, Port Louis has so many interesting places, that a stop of a few hours or half a day won’t do it justice. You will definitely have to come back again.

But, if you are stopping by, we recommend you stop at the Caudan Waterfront and stroll your way under the tropical sun. You’ll find many restaurants, street foods as well as many shops and tourist facilities. Here also, you can take a look at the craft market and its unique handicrafts. 4. SSR Botanical Garden

The SSR Botanical Garden locally known as Pamplemousses garden is a botanical garden located in the northwest of Mauritius just 12 minutes from Grand Baie. This park covers an area of more than 37 hectares. There are hundreds of botanical species that come from different parts of the world. 

Visiting Pamplemousses Garden (see…?) is one of the most popular natural attractions in Mauritius. The park attracts thousands if not hundreds of thousands of visitors each year. This place is a very interesting place also from a historical perspective. Its creation dates back to the year 1736, when a French Governor, François Mahé de Labourdonnais chose to set up his domain in the vicinity of the garden. In 1767 when Pierre Poivre, a French horticulturist arrived, he added the plantation of several additional plant species.

The botanical garden of Pamplemousses since its creation, has always been attributed to numerous world-renowned personalities and more recently, Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam, the first prime minister of the country. We could have kept going with the history of the garden, but we leave some for you to be discovered on the spot. If you can, we recommend booking a guide at the entrance, especially if you are a nature or plant lover. You will learn so much more with a guide. But you can still enjoy most of the garden’s peaceful and perfumed alleys on your own. You’ve just got to stroll as this is the best way to connect to the natural spirit of this place.

5. L’aventure du Sucre

L’aventure du Sucre (The Sugar Adventure) is located in a wonderful sugar estate just a few minutes from the SSR Botanical Garden. L’Aventure du Sucre is one of the oldest sugar refineries that is “still in activity” in Mauritius. In fact, the refinery has been transformed into an adventure-filled historical museum. You’ll definitely enjoy learning more about sugar which is tight to the history of the island. 

Through the mill and museum like in its fine restaurant or its exquisite rum, you are in for an adventure. This place is a real entertainment which will definitely please children also. You can also find a really authentic boutique to buy sugar and its derived products.
