Booking status during natural calamities, pandemic or flight delays

One of the most asked questions among travelers is the booking status during events like pandemic situations, volcanic eruption, mechanical fault or any other situations which causes temporary suspensions or delays of the flight. We got all of our customers covered in these situations. Free cancellation of booking or postpone the same at no additional cost. One of the most talked about topics is the Coronavirus and there are many questions about this.

INCASE OF DELAY IN FLIGHT AND SUSPENSION OF FLIGHT

One may rarely find himself in these situations but in case of any unforeseen situations like volcanic eruptions, mechanical fault or natural calamities there might be a temporary suspension of flights or delay. Such events cannot be forecasted well in advance and due to which a chain reaction takes place and other events get affected. So in these situations what happens?, Will Easycab charge us extra money or do they just cancel the booking and we find ourselves in no man’s land when we reach?

Well to put it short, we got you covered in all of those above-mentioned situations. For slight delays of up to 1 hour, our liaison officer shall wait at the airport arrival gate at no additional cost. Anything above that a minimal waiting fee might apply if the rentee does not inform the liaison officer or the company about the delay in advance at least before takeoff. The fee will normally not exceed 10 Euro. In the case where the booking is postponed, one can easily modify it on the booking platform at no cost provided the same is done at least 1 day prior or reach us via WhatsApp. At Easycab, we don’t cancel bookings unless we get a confirmation mail from the rentee to do so.

In events of extreme situations where rentee arrives late and has valid reasons (due to flight en route situations), the first thing to do is contact us on landing and everything will be handled at no additional cost.

FLIGHT SUSPENSION DUE TO PANDEMIC SITUATIONS LIKE CORONAVIRUS

Coronavirus, this name is on everyone’s lips now. What we feared has finally arrived, the epidemic which affected Wuhan early this year was declared a pandemic by WHO on …

The virus reached our island in march and what followed was not less than catastrophic. It all started on the 20th of March when the Prime Minister of Mauritius declared a national lockdown as from 06 a.m the following day. Following that press conference, we could immediately see a peak in the audience on the streets. Everyone was rushing to stores to get groceries, pharmaceutical products or some queueing up at the pump station to get their vehicles to refuel. It was a situation that most of us were not prepared for yet here we are in a national lockdown due to the cases of coronavirus recorded in the country. At the same time, the saddest part is our friends, relatives and foreign visitors who traveled thousands of kilometers to spend their vacations in Mauritius were now forced to stay indoors.

30 March 2020, 6:00 pm, 15 days already in the pandemic situation and things look pretty messed up. The infection number has soared exponentially. Effecting contact tracing has been done by the government and we are expecting things to start stabilizing soon. The number of infected patients is now increasing at a decreased rate, which is good news.

QUARANTINE ACT

Under the Quarantaine act, all drivers who hit the road without any valid ground shall pay a fine or might even face further penalties depending on the situation. Public Health act was already implemented and precautions, as mentioned below, should be taken.

PRECAUTIONS TO TAKE

The lockdown was extended until the 4th of May, and many of us are hopeful that this will end soon. We advise following all the precautions mentioned by the ministry of health even after the confinement. As goes the saying precaution is better than cure. In the same line, the first thing to do is to avoid places where there is a lot of social gathering. Use hand sanitizer and also wear a mask when venturing outside.

  • Hand sanitizer on the steering wheels, electronic window button and other devices close to the driver.
  • Always wear gloves as it provides additional security
  • Do not carry other passengers except for house members for some time until the pandemic starts to disappear.
  • Always tender the exact amount as far as possible at the pump station as these are the places where a lot of exchanges take place and risk is higher.
  • Maintain at least 1-meter distance while taking care delivery and dropoff. We recommend each rentee to bring your pen to sign all pertaining documents.
  • Exclusively for the month of April till June, all pre-bookings will be confirmed only if documents(Driver license, NIC & proof of address)are sent via email. During car pickup, we shall only cross-check the same visually.

BOOKINGS STATUS DURING THE PANDEMIC

During lockdown

During the lockdown, all confirmed bookings were automatically void with our free cancellation policy. At Easycab we are aware that most of our clients could not use their car as soon as the lockdown would be in force and thus we offered an option to return the vehicles earlier in exchange for redeeming points for future booking or cash settlement. It is a way to encourage our clients to stay safe indoors.

After lockdown

Going out is like gaining second independence after 1968. Having stayed indoors for nearly one month, most people would seize the opportunity to at least enjoy the first day or first weekend(for those who work) on road trips, seasides or city roam. It might make sense as after one month lockdown but it is at this very moment that things may get nasty. We advise to still avoid crowded places like markets and shopping malls as far as possible as an isolated case might start a second wave of the pandemic spread.

Things to do after lockdown (with all necessary precautions).

  • This might be a bit subjective but it is known that Le Morne to Flic en Flac, Pointe aux Piments to G Baie, Belle Mare and Blue bay are the most famous beaches in Mauritius.
  • For the next few days, other alternatives might be less crowded beaches like Butte a l’Herbe, Poste Lafayette and Melville.
  • Mountain climbing, Mt Lion is a nice option, easy to climb and the view from the top is amazing.
  • Outdoor activities like cycling, quad biking, swimming.
  • Mauritius has so much to offer and what’s better than a nice road trip. We have a lot of scenic routes which will blow out your mind.
